Members of To Protect Our Heritage met Richard Mourdock, Indiana State Treasurer, at an Israel Bonds event, a fitting occasion for a man who has made record state investments in Israel Bonds.
In his Israel position statement, he writes:
“As Treasurer of Indiana, I increased the state of Indiana’s holdings of Israel bonds to a total of $15 million, an amount significantly larger than that held under my predecessor. Today, Indiana-Israel ties go beyond the bond market and should expand further. Israel is Indiana’s twenty-first largest source of imports. In fact, according to the U.S. Census, imports from Israel in Indiana more than doubled between 2009 and 2010, increasing by 115.5 per
cent. Two Israeli companies – Keter and Taditel – have headquartered their North American operations in Indiana. As U.S. Senator, I would seek to broaden and deepen that economic relationship.”
Mourdock’s commitment to Israel is not just lip service. It preceded his public service. As an Evangelical Christian, he understood America’s and Israel’s shared history, values, and interests before his name ever appeared on a ballot. As a businessman, he appreciates the importance of US-Israel cooperation on technology, energy, and defense. “As an individual,” he affirms, “Israel remains close to my heart.” As a U.S. Senator, he vows “to ensure that the U.S. maintains a strong relationship with Israel and assists Israel in defending against the many threats to her security. ..I would be a vocal advocate and defender of Israel firm in the belief that America can never stand idle as Israel faces danger. As Senator, I would seek to defend Israel and emphasize at home and abroad her central importance to the U.S.”
